As the depression progressed the gap between the rich and poor grew dramatically bigger, companies began to give their top workers a far larger paycheck than the lower class workers.

As we can see, the income between the two lifestyles is very similar.

The difference between rich and poor starts to become a bit more noticeable

Due to such a vast span between the difference between the two lifestyles tensions in the US rose, not helped in the least by the fact that few people were now making enough money to support their families. Some businesses made a large amount of money because of the war but very little of that was going to the lower workers of the company. Because lower class citizens did not have the money they needed many lost their homes or went hungry. This also caused problems with enforcing Prohibition because so many people turned to alcohol to solve their problems.
