The causes of the Great Depression were numerous. 7 of the causes are as follows:

  1. High Tariffs: not letting other countries trade without smashing them with charges. external image the%20great%20depression%202.gif
  2. War Debt Policies: other countries paying off their war debt with our money.
  3. Crisis in the Farm Sector: farmers losing money.
  4. Easy Credit: buying on margain.
  5. Unequal Distribution of Credit: wide gap between the rich and the poor.
  6. Stock Market Crash: stock value plummets, killing companies.
  7. Failure of Banks: banks unable to give out loans

Because of these causes, and several more, the United States of America went through the Great Depression, one of the most troubling times of the country's history for the civilians of this land. People lost their money, they lost their home, and the only thing that gave them hope were radio announcements by the President. 1932 is commonly regarded as the worst year of the depression, but it lasted until late 30s, early 40s.
